stuff I like

Saturday, 26 April 2008 · 14 Comments

I’m going to go against all expectations and normal patterns here at Ye Olde WC Blogge by talking about things I dig. Nary a bitch-n-moan will be had.

And also, this is where you discover what a naughty consumer I am. Alas. We live in a very humble 1000 sq ft (100 m2) apartment, we only have one small, non-gas-guzzling car, use public transport daily, buy fair trade, use non-disposable grocery bags we bring with us, don’t shop as a recreational activity (of course, the lack of Costco probably has more to do with this than our own virtuousness…) and recycle absolutely everything we can. Yes, I do have a fair bit of liberal guilt. Well, ’tis the curse of our modern world.

things I used to think

Sunday, 30 March 2008 · 16 Comments

- That no one was really, actually dumb — ie, that all people were more or less pretty smart, some were just more educated than others

- That people always had a reasonable, understandable excuse for their bad behaviour

- That god was watching out for me and preparing me for Great Things

just a little thing

Sunday, 23 March 2008 · 19 Comments

There are some things that bug me inordinately, disproportionately. I don’t know why, they just do. One of these is people who don’t have interactive dialogue on their blogs — or don’t respond to comments at all. Funny that this bothers me because I am not so great at this myself. I do always come back and respond, but not very timely sometimes. Ahem. All I know is, it’s kind of a negatively reinforcing behaviour for me and I tend to stop commenting as much on those blogs.

a political change

Thursday, 6 March 2008 · 17 Comments

Even a short time ago, I would have said I was a strong Hillary Clinton supporter. I really wanted her in the White House. I wanted her to kick ass and take names. I wanted her to be The One In Charge. I wanted her to be the woman in charge. Fuck yeah! And about fucking time too!

sociological meme

Saturday, 1 March 2008 · 5 Comments

Todd tagged me for this one, so I’m finally playing along. I didn’t have a book near me, except for a knitting book and that would have been lame. As opposed to exciting, fresh and new…like all memes.

your macro’s killing my micro

Wednesday, 20 February 2008 · 13 Comments

A recent news headline posits that America is poised on the brink of an economic meltdown. Well, let it be noted first of all that I am no economist. But it’s easy to see that there are a lot of signs that all is not well. I’m probably not as upset about the possibility as I should be. I want some changes, and pain tends to bring change about faster than ease does.

it’s not my fault

Todd made me do it. Here’s a meme…with all apologies in advance. I have some other posts brewing for reals, but not ready to be born yet.
